The Learning Journey to Silicon Savannah (2022) – Day 2
We started our second day of the learning journey with a visit to Twiga Foods customers, informal micro-retailers in Kawangware, and market vendors in Kilimani. The students got to interview different retailers and vendors and learn how they use Twiga foods and other platforms to order fresh produce and consumer goods daily. Energized by these early morning field visits, we met with Peter Njonjo, CEO of Twiga Foods who gave us a detailed overview of his vision to build Twiga into the end-to-end solution for food supply in Kenya, eliminating food waste, increasing the efficiency of food production, and disrupting the Kenyan food market.
In the afternoon, the participant groups got time to work on the design challenge at the green and welcoming meeting spaces at Ikigai Co-working Space.
In the early evening, we went to Nairobi National Park – a must on every visit to Nairobi. The group was fascinated by the magnificent beauty of the national park while the skyscrapers of Nairobi’s skyline seemed just a stone’s throw away. The breathtaking and superb beauty of the wild featured among many the white and black rhinos, and of course the lions! It was a fantastic way to end Day 2 of the learning journey!
